Allan Taylor Cup 2009
20th June 2009 at Cibubur Cricket Ground
The inaugural Allan Taylor Cup in 2009 is the event developed by the Jakarta Bintangs to utilise the award given by The Australia-Indonesia Institute in 2008 and continuing on with the grant given in late 2007 to implement a junior development program in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Allan Taylor Cup will see a round-robin format football tournament played between teams from East and South Jakarta, Depok and Bogor. The aim of the day is to build bi-lateral ties between the countries, expose the children to football in a competitive format, instil solid ideals of health and fitness and to remember the great work undertaken by Allan Taylor during his career in diplomacy. The children involved have been training from between three months - one year depending on where they live in Jakarta, with several of the Depok players having been involved four years ago in the now defunct West Java Football League. It promises to be a fantastic day of football and cross cultural experiences and has the potential to become a fixture on Jakartas football calendar. The Depok Teams will be heavy favourites against the relatively inexperienced but enthusiastic teams from the East and Bogor but expect the South Jakarta teams to provide more than a few headaches with exciting things expected from their quick style of play. The Jakarta Bintangs would like to thank the Australia-Indonesia Institute, Australian Football League, Bali Geckos, Borneo Bears and the rest of our illustrious and important sponsors for making this day possible.
